SCOUT TOPICS
(By “Scouter”) Scouting the world over seems to be coming more into prominence, the main feature at present, of course, being the twenty-first birthday, which will be celebrated on August 3 next. Locally every effort is being made to get old Scouts together for the function. All day on the third will be devoted to scouting in its various forms, and the evening to a monster banquet, the exact programme for which will be decided at a meeting to be called for that purpose, and at which all old Scouts and Scooters will be invited to be present. Local Troops. Local troops are progressing with their winter programme, which will fit them for the great outdoors which is, after all, the main feature of scouting. Signalling, ambulance, knotting and splicing, lashing and bridge building, mapping and compass work are all being entered into with a spirit which speaks volumes for the Scout and Cub masters, who are inspriug the boys in this most useful knowledge. The reports from the various troops are most encouraging and a great session is looked forward to. Waitotara are getting going and we are expecting to hear of a strong troop there. It behoves Fordell and Turakina, now to get going and we should like to hear from anyone interested in these places. They can be assured of the hearty co-operation of their brother Scouts in Wanganui. The names of all Scouters and Scouts are flowing in and the District Scout Master would like to hear of any others. Send address to 217, The Avenue or ’phone 3459. Let’s have a bumper outfit on our twenty-first birthday.
