SOUTH TARANAKI WINTER SHOW
FEATURES OF INTEREST GOVERNMENT PUBLICITY DEPARTMENT Probably one of the most interesting and attractive displays that will be made at the 1929 Winter Show and National Shop Window Display at Hawera will be that of the Government Publicity Department. The object in arranging for this feature is to in a measure answer the false iticism that frequently appears regarding the work of this particular sphere of the Government. As most of the efforts of the Publicity Department are confined to overseas it is natural that their sphere of operations does not come under the notice of the public generally.
The display at the show is divided into two sections, (1) a film display and (2) a photographic display. For the film display a special picture theatre has been arranged, which will accommodate about 250 people. It is here that the Department's films will be shown at various sessions each day during the currency of the show. It may not be generally known, but the Department produces a film of New Zealand scenery of 1000 feet once each week, and these are regularly sent abroad. These films will be shown at Hawera.
The other section, that of display of photographs, will be wonderfully attarctive. A special room 40 feet by 30 feet, with a large centre stand, is being arranged, and some hundreds of photographs of New Zealand scenery will set forth the wonders of this little country.
There will also be a display of posters issued by the Department. This is a new departure, but those already issued are most attractive and effective. Included in the display will be a set of booklets as distributed, dealing with phases of various activities in New Zealand, together with its scenic attractions. Copies of any of the photographs displayed can be obtained at a nominal cost. A member of the Publicity Office will be in attendance to answer and attend to the inquiries of the public. These exhibits alone are worth coming a very long way to see. The show dates are from June 26 to July 3.
