Another remarkable case of a successful masquerade was revealed in Eversham (Worcestershire), where a woman lived for four years as the husband of another woman. bhe masqueraded and was known as William Sydney Holtom, aged 42, and was employed as a timber carter. Her identity was revealed when she was admitted hospital. The “wife,” who was Mabel Lincoln, of Birmingham, says that she was astounded at the revelation. She said: “It is unbelievable that he is a woman. Her voice was that of a norms 1 man.
