COLLISION IN HARBOUR

ACCIDENT AT AUCKLAND [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, May 8. A collision occurred in the harbour to-night between the Northern Company’s steamer Rangitoto, and the launch Alert, which was towing a shingle barge. The steamer struck the launch on the port bow, cutting partly through tho timbering. The men aboard the launch scrambled on to the barge before the launch sank. The launch was 32 feet long and was owned by Parry Bros., towing agents, and was not insured. ElTorts will be made to salvage her.
