IMPROVED TRAIN SERVICE
ALTERATION IN TIME-TABLES. [ Per Press Association. ] DUNEDIN, May 2. In a statement' today the Minister of Railways announces changes in the railway timetables to meet the present inability of the express mail trains to run regularly to schedule. In some cases an improvement could only be etfected by easing throughout the time, but Mr Taverner declares that the arriving times in general are more suitable. , , At present the details announced effect only thfe lines between Christchurch and Invercargill, but Mr Taverner states that arrangements aie also in hand to improve the North Island services. These arc largely dependent on improvements to the crossing facilities now being constructed, together with the completion of the uplication on busy sections north of Frankton to Horotiii. Improvements on the Rotorua and Tauranga lines have also been decided on. The details will be available shortly. ) The Minister cannot give the exact date of the changes, but it will be within a few weeks.
