TIMBER STRIKE EXTENDED LEVY ON UNIONS INCREASED. [ Australian Press Assn. ] SYDNEY, April 5. The disputes committee of the Labour Council has decided to extend the timber strike to employees in the building trades. The council increased the shilling a week levy on unions to two shilings from Monday. Carpenters, plasterers, bricklayers' and builders have been instructed not Io handle any timber from several big Sydney yards. The scheme is part of the shock tactics and will involve for the first time workers other than those engaged in the timber industry. A Al el bourne message states that a conference of union officials decided 1o leave the timber dispute to the workmen originally involved, and to levy other unions for the support of the idle men.
