THREE CHEERS FOR "JUST BLIGHTY"

Dear Wendy,—lt was quite like old times to see a letter of “Apple Blossom’s” in our pages again. I do hope she writes more often ' now, because her letters are always so good. I Well, at last Daylight Saving has gone. I ; laughed at your mistake. Poor you! I, think quite a lot made the same mistake. 1 wonder if it will come back to torment us again next year? This time last year every- ! one was arguing about it, and it was the j main topic of conversation. But this year ■ no one seems to care much, or else they are i Blighty’s letter was wonderful. I think • I could add a little to it, though—" Just j Blighty, ’’ two little words which cover the identity of a reader kind and good. One ■ whose aim in life is to cheer and help those i who are ill or lonely and those in far less' comfortable a position than herself. So if I we ask for three cheers for "Just Blighty” I'm sure everyone will join in with a hearty j good-will. Gee, they’ve been having some ; awful 'quakes down South, haven’t they?: I’m glad I live up here. "Cows” is our | “Hut’’ humorist for her letter was so jolly, | overflowing with happy thoughts and jokes, i It's a glorious day to-day. Real summer j weather. The sun is shining, birds are sing- i ing, etc., etc., and all the rest of it. But I’m afraid autumn will soon be here for the I i trees are beginning to show quite a lot of red, gold and brown leaves. Easter will soon be gone, and also the holidays. One doesn't meet many school children like "Raindrop." They usually adore holidays and never have enough. I know I used to think that our well-earned (perhaps!) holidays a. the end of three long months of swatting were miles too short. “Just Jenny” and "Tipperary Tim” are coming up to-day for the day. Wendy, please forward the enclosed letters to “Will o’ the Wisp” and "White Foiget-me-not” and oblige your “STAR OF TH3 DESERT,” Hunterville. I was, like you, so pleased to see “Apple Blossom” had not forgotten us, my dear. I, too, hope we shall hear more from her. Yes, didn’t I make a silly mistake? I expect there were many others though, just as forgetful. Yes, I expect we shall have the Daylight Saving next year, too. You do not appear to welcome it. How wonderful of you, my dear, to add your kind thoughts to "Just Blighty.” She deserves three times three cheers! And they are given, too, if in thought only. The ’quakes must have been dreadful. I am very glad also that I live so far away from Arthur’s Pass. The weather haa been beautiful here lately. Such hot days. I always thought holidays far too short, too. How nice to have "Just Jenny” and "Tipperary Tim" to see you. I will forward the letters.—Wendy. “LONE SCOUT,” Taihape.—l will ask “Pertinette” for the address of the pen-friend in South Africa. Many thanks for your parcel of books for our "Ship.” She will not only carry a cargo of comfits but a splendid little library as well. How nice to collect the objects you mention, and later examine them unuer the microscope. Did you see any of my kisses in the thistledowns you caught? The silver paper is quite useful whether painted or plain.—Wendy.

"DOLLY VARDEN,” Matarawa.—Oh! How disappointing! Fancy having half the sports and then having to postpone them until another day. No, I do not expect very much work was done. However, you all had quite an eventful day, didn’t you? How unlucky you were in the finals of the book and sack races. Better luck next time. Let me know how you fare in the other races, won’t you? I hope someone went to see "The Lily Queen.” Many thanks for the cards. They are so welcome.—Wendy.
