COAL STRIKE ON COAST

TWO MINES IDLE [ Per Preen Association ] GREYMOUTH, Feb. 26. A stoppage occurred to-day at both the Dobson and Backball mines. At Dobson six miners, through a shortage of trucks said to be due to a defective mine roadway, ceased work last evening, and later a deputy sent three truckers home. The union held a stop-work meeting this afternoon and asked that the truckers be paid for their shifts. It was decided that the afternoon shift would not go down till a settlement was effected. At Blackball the dispute is due to the company’s refusal to recognise the turn system in taking on employees. This difference is likely to be settled tomorrow. '
