STATEMENT TO COURT

ALLEGED TO BE FALSE DANNEVIRKE, Feb. 8. Arising out of a recent civil action, Janies Humphreys, painter and labourer, was committed for trial to the Supreme Court, charged with making a statement knowing it to be false and intended to mislead the Court.

Accused alleged that he had made two payments of £5O each in connection with a building contract, and that a friend of his wa s present when the second £5O was paid. This was denied by the said friend, who said accused had asked him prior to the civil action to swear that he saw accused paying £5O in notes, for which he received a receipt. The friend had declined to do this as it would have been fatee.
