ON THE DECLINE

NEWCASTLE’S COAL TRADE [Australian Press Assn.] NEWCASTLE, Jan. 9. The Sub-Collector of Customs has made available returns showing the quantity of coal shipped from Newcastle last year. These bear further witness to the lost trade in coal in recent years. The exports of coal to inter state and overseas ports totalled 2,885,958 tons, valued at £3,391,361. The output was 700,000 tons less than that of the previous year, when the coal trade was admittedly depressed.
