Mr and Mrs .Alfred Wilson and family have returned from a motor trip to Waitonio Caves, Rotorua and Taupo. Mr and Mrs J. Hill are among Wanganui visitors to Auckland. Mr and Mrs A. L. Griffiths have returned from a mt or tour to Auckland. Miss May Taylor, of “Te Matai,” Palmerston North, is the guest of Mrs C. H. Illston, “Kildonon,” Huntervillc. Miss R. Bassett has returned from Wellington, where she was the guest of Mrs Christophers. Miss A. Macdonald and Miss R. Larsen, of Gonvillc, are spending a holiday in the South IslandSirs E. A. ENGAGEMENTS The engagement is announced of Stella Agnes, second daughter of Mr and Mrs Dear, Wanganui, to Thomas Christieson, youngest son of Mr and Mrs M. Christieson, Wanganui. WEDDINGS SCOULAR-SPUR DL E A pretty wedding was solemnised at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church yesterday, when Olive Mary, daughter of Mr antf Mrs M. Spurdie was married to Russell, son of Mrs E. AV. Scoular, of Dunedin. The church was beautifully decorated by the bride’s friends, with ferns and flowersThe bride wore a simple frock of brocaded satin and a long veil caught with orange blossom. She carried a sheaf of yellow gladiolas. The bridesmaid, Miss Helen Spurdie, wore a blue silk frock with hat to match and carried a bouquet of golden roses. Mr E. Winchcombe was best man. Mrs .Spurdie, mother of the bride, wore an apricot georgette frock with lace panels and hat to tone. Mrs Scoular (Dunedin) mother of the bridegroom, wore a black silk frock, black brocade coat and black hat. Mrs G. Caiman, grandmother of the bride, wore lavender crepe de chine, with gcorg-

ette trimming. After the wedding a reception was held at the residence of Mrs G. Caiman. Amongst those present were: Mrs K. Hammond (aunt of the bride), Mrs H. Gilberd (aunt), Misses Gilberd, Scoular (sisters of the bride), Mrs Don Caiman, Mrs Krull and Mrs P. Krull, Mr and Mrs T. Jeffepate, Mrs Swan, Mrs I’. Lewis, Mrs Murehie, Mr and Mrs T. 11. Bond and Miss P. Bond, Mrs Rankin, Mrs Price, Mrs Phantom and Miss Phantom, Mr and Mrs M. Stevenson, Mr and Mrs Milne and Miss Milne, Capt. and Mrs White, Mrs Notman, Misses Burnet, Coull, Hunger, Hall, Bringezu. The bride left by car for Ro/orua wearing a flloral crepe de chine frock and hat to tone. JOHNSTONE—WILLIAMS A pretty wedding was solemnised last Wednesday at St. Paul’s Church, when Ann, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs H- Williams, of Taihape, and late of Wanganui, was married to Jack, only son of Mr and Mrs R. F. Johnstone, Wanganui East. The church was beautifully decorated with blue, mauve and pink blossoms. The bride’s frock was of cream satin and made with an overdress of silver lace, her veil being caught with orange blossom and silver bandeau. She carried a bouquet of pink and white sweet peas. Miss Ncssie Williams, sister of the bride, was maid of honour, wearing a pale blue georgette frock, frilled and caught with a diamante buckle. Misses Eileen AVilson and May Green (cousins of the bridegrom) wore green and lemon georgette respectively, and black crinoline hats, and their boiiqucts matched their frocks. Shircley was flower girl, wearing pale pink crepe de chine, with a tulle mob cap. She (.iryied a silver horseshoe, which she presented to the bride. Mr Orty acted as best man, and Mr Kitchener as , as groomsman. I After the wedding a reception was held in the Town Hall, Wanganui East, where about 150 guests assembled. The

hall was gaily decorated. Mrs Johnstone received her guests wearing a I'-ck marocain and biscuit georgette frock, biscuit hat, and bouquet of shaded sweet peas. Mr and Mrs Johnstone l A ft for the north, the latter travelling in a blue crepe de chine frock, with biscuit and blue hat.

TO-DAY’S RECIPE Hot Pot —2 lbs neck chops; 2 lbs potatoes, J large onion, 4 sheep’s kidnoys, 1 tablespoon butter, enough stock or water to fill pot, 1 red Chilli, salt pepper, to taste. Wash, trim fat from chops, skin, halve kidneys, wash, peel, stalk, mushrooms, peel, slice onion and potatoes, mince chilli. First put butter in pot with onion, then add other ingredients in layers till pot is full, ending with a layer of potatoes; pour over the stock, well seasoned, put lumps of butter here and there on top, cover with a thickly buttered piece of paper, stand the pot in a moderate oven, bake from to 2 hours; the last | hour remove paper so that potatoes can brown, send to table in hot pot with a table napkin pinned round.
