YOUNG WOMAN'S FRAUDS
NO MONEY FOR TAXI ESCAPADE IN THE SOUTH DUNEDIN, Dec. 28. A few weeks ago a young, single woman busied herself about Dunedin obtaintng money and goods from townspeople by falsely representing that her husband was a builder out of town and that sh 0 was short of ready cash. After meeting with a fair measure of success she disappeared to Invercargill, where she met a femalp companion. The two women If --»d a taxi and went for a drive to Timaru. Neither had the wherewithal to pay for the conveyance and their arrest followed. The women were dealt with in the Police Court for obtaining taxi hire by fraud. The pseudo-builder’s wife was charged also w ; th committing similar offences in Dunedin. Tn order that restitution might, be made she ivas admitted to probation for two years.
