Sparkling Entertainment. That Edgley and Dawe, the brilliant pautoinimists and comedians heading the J. C. Williamson “Midnight Fro lies” company, showing at the Opera House on January 9, lU, and 11, will provide sparkling entertainment, is assured, and as the company supporting the famous artists comprises a large number of versatile comedians, dancers, vocalists, with a full jazz band of twelve performers providing special items, small wonder is it that universal interest is being manifested in the visit. Details of th© Dominion tour have not yet been completed by Mr Roylc but so far as the North Island is 'concerned, and the present conditions the following towns will bo visited: Hamilton, Wanganui, New Plymouth, Stratford, llawcra, Palmerston North, Danncvirke, Hastings, Napier and Gisborne. The Wellington season will follow this North Island provincial tour after which tho company will go south.

A Wonderful Actress Irene Vanbrugh, coming to New Zealand in February with Dion Boucicault, is one of the cleverest women on th< English stage. Not only in her general performance is she supreme, but also in her meticulous care of lhe details that round off and give a finish to an impersonation. Commenting on her recently, a London writer observed: “When Irene Vanbrugh is on the stage she is acting. She may not bo speaking or moving about; she may not be facing the audience She may even be sitting on a chair, as I have seen her, apparently gazing into space—almost unseen by the audience; yet she is acting—acting intensely, acting naturally. There are few actresses on the stage today who are able to convey so much by so little.”

The Chinese Theatre in San Francisco, Seattle and the Pacific (.'oast generally have contributed four of their foremost troupers to enhance gty cafe sequences in Raymond Cannon s “Husbands are Liars” for Fox Films. Arriving yesterday on the lot in their colourful costumes of the Ming Dynastic period, the four, Miss Bo Ling, Lee Ting, Guin Chuen, and Jimmy Leong, presented a most colourful, Oriental appearance. Miss Bo Ling is an exceptional dancer and essays the ancient Chinese dances as well as modern esthetic terpsichore.
