GOODWILL
Ist. It was Christmas Eve and the rays of the pale golden moon shone through the window of the bedroom where Jean and Beth lay peacefully sleeping. Then suddenly down one specially bright little moonbeam came gliding a tiny ship, laden with parcels of all shapes and whose gleaming sides shone like a halo in the moonlight. At the helm stood a tiny dainty figure of a fairy dressed in sparkling white. Expertly she guided her small craft to the foot, of the bed where two long stockings dangled. Laughing happily she quickly filled them with parcels from the hold. Then kissing her hand to the two figures on the bed ihe glided lightly through the window into the starry night. The name of the ship was “Goodwill” and the fairy’s name was “Wendy.” “Merry Xmas, Jean! Do wake up. Lpok at our stockings, they are bulging. Mother said there wasn't any Father Christmas, but there must be 'cos he's filled them up.” Excitedly the little girls emptied the contents on to the bed, and began to undo them. “What’s this?” said Jean. “Oh, it’s a book, from ‘Snowdrop.’ ” Who on earth is “Snowdrop?” Puzzled, they searched all the parcels and found names such as “Phantasy. “Plum Blossom,” “Cyclamen,” “Ayacanora, “Shimmering Cascade,” “Betty Blue” and “Just Jenny,” etc. They couldn’t think of a solution to the mystery, but at last Beth •laid, “I think they must be Santa Claus’ helpers,” and so they left it at tha-L—From STAR O FTHE DESERT,” (aged bj, Hunterville.
