“WERE THE BEES EARMARKED?” ASKS SUPPOSED OWNER
Dear Wendy,—l have not written to you for a long time, so I will write to you now. Last Thursday some of the children went outside to learn some lessons. They saw a log, so they sat down on it, but they were very lucky
because they nearly sat on a swarm of bees ; weren’t they lucky they did not get stung. Our schoolmaster rang another man, and asked him if they were his bees, ; he said
I were they earmarked. Now, isn t that funny. IWe have two Persian kittens, they are also funny. We have nearly finished our exams. I had 90 for spelling. SO for composition, 70 for writing, 51 for nature study, 73 for general knowledge. 61 for geography, 52 for Scripture. I did not pass in poetry or drawing. Dear me, the year has gone quickly. I wish you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Good-bye, with houses full of love f o you and all the Wendyites—from “ROYAL ROSE,” Westmere.
I am so glad you have written to me once again, my dear. Oh! How lucky the children were not Io get slung by the bees. It would have been dreadful had the bees become aggressive. How funny the man was. Who has ever heard of bees being earmarked? The Persian kittens are playful little things, aren't they? Before I forget, do you remember those pansy slips you sent me? They did not grow. I was so sorry to loose them, for
(they were beautiful. I am pleased to hear that you have passed. The two subjects you did not pass in would not affect your total number of marks very much. They are not very important. Many thanks for your kind wishes.—Wendy.
