THE ISLAND HAMLET
All thy dear magic murmurs in thy name—half saint, half syren of Hellenic fame, —a green-spread hamlet on an island height, that gleams for ever on my misted sight. Thy flowery woods such warmth of welcome hold as lifeworn travellers wist of, and en-
fold the heart in such sweet rapture of content as woos to smiles its yearning wonderment. Thy seagirt pastures and thy scented fields, when glittering day to graver twilight yield still shimmer with such opalescent sheen as moonbeam sheds upon the Might-Have-Been; as though from changeling sea and merging sky, one mingled, mystic ray enwrapped a sigh. . . . Below the heights, at dawn, when sunrise streams upon the quiet harbour, ships of dreams are anchored there—like prayers thai are fulfilled when all Love’s fears arc hushed, all doubts arc stilled. 0 island hamlet, visioned now afar, one ship is mine within thy harbour bar. Though now on alien shore my' lot is cast, my heart shall be aboard! her at the Inst. U.S.
