LENGTH OF SERMONS

USE FOR BAND CONCERTS Speaking on a recommendation of the Parks and Gardens Committe of the council at Malvern, Melbourne, lately that the Malvern Tramway Band be given the customary permission to hold a sjerie s of Sunday night concerts in the local cricket ground, commencing at 8.15 p.m., a councillor said he thought the time of starting should be 8.30. Starting at 8.15 means that jvoung people would either :ush out of the church early to be in time for the concert or they would not attend church at all. Another councillor said that the committee had discussed that aspect and as there had been no protest in the past from churche's the usual time of starting the concerts was not varied. A Councillor: It will mean shorter sermons and so help to fill thg churches. (Laughter). The recommendation was adopted.
