A delightful party in honour of Miss Betty Bail'd, who is shortly to be married, was given yesterday by Mrs G. W. Currie, nt her homo in Wickstged Street. Airs Currie received her guests wearing a smart frock of white georgette figured in black, while the guest of horaur wore a dainty juniper suit of saxe-blue crepe-de-chene. Between 30 and 40 members of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union assembled at the Victoria League rooms in St. Hill Street on Wednesday, and spent a most delightful afternoon. The rooms looked most attractive, decorated with many beautiful flowers. Air W. Y.M.C.A., and the other in aid of All Saints’ Church at Wanganui East. In both cases most g atifying results were achieved and the helpers are to be congratulated ou the success of. their efforts. Those assisting at the Y.M.C.A. “Shop” were: Mesdames Blyth, Bowlin, Laurie, Webster, Carpenter, McDougall, Rankin, Tin goy, Hair, Murchie, Therkleson, and Misses Dual and McBeth. ANNUAL CAMP. St. Peter’s, Ingestre Street, Christ Church, Clifton House, and Castlecliff companies of Guides and Brownies, Wanganui, intend holdifag their annual camp at Turakina, on “Clenmore,” lent by Mr H. Cameron. The Guiders intend leaving for the camp on January 2, to be ready for the girls two days later. The camp is ideally situated on the banks of the Turakina River, with plenty of bush for shelter. ST. JOSEPH’S (Waverley) CONVENT. The Sisters of St. Joseph’s Convent, Waverley, held a most successful shop day at the Town Hall last week, as a result of which the -funds will benefit to the extent of ov.er £lOO. TO WASH CHAMOIS CLOVES To revive the colour of chamios gloves, boil the peel of an orange in some water and wash the gloves in it. Strain the solution before using. the gloves are dry they will look as nice as when new, the peel reviving the original colour. WOMEN’S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION The monthly meeting of the Wanganui Central Branch of the W.C.T.U., was held in Trinity Parlour, on Thursday, Airs Irwin presiding. The devotional exercises were led by Airs Goodey, who exhorted the members to greater faith and courage and more determined work in the face of the set-back to the prohibition vote. It was decided to supply a copy of the {t White Ribbon” to the Ladies’ Rest Rooms. It was reported that Aliss Alara had 156 homes on 4ho cradle roll. The recording secretary, Aliss Christie, then presented an excellent annual report. The. branch numbers 105 members, and 156 are on the cradle roll. There are 49 subscribers to the “White Ribbon,” ami there are eight departments of work. The treasurer, Airs Heatley, presented a very satisfactory report and was thanked for her work during the year. Airs Irwin was thanked for her arrangements for ”Notable Days” during the year, and much appreciation was expressed of her efforts. The election of officers for the year

It was decided to give £1 Is to the trustees of the Methodist Church in recbgnition of their courtesy in allowing the Union the use of the church parlour, and £2 2s was passed as a donation to the AVillard Home.

Members expressed their sympathy with Mrs W. G. Bassett in her recent bereavement. Airs Siddellfj proposed and Airs Butt seconded a motion that a letter of condolence be sent to her.

An invitation was issued by Airs Goodey to all members and friends to attend an entertainment and supper in connection with the “Al” branch to be hold in Trinity Sunday School on December 15, at 7.45 p.m.

Airs Alorton invited members to at tend a garden party at the Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, towards the end of January to meet and hear her mother. Airs Rutter, who has been investigating the working of no-license in various parts of the world, including America, Canada and India,

TO-DAY’S RECIPE. Almond, Icing.—Required: Two pounds of ground almonds, two pounds of icing-sugar, six or seven whites of eggs, lemon-juice, vanilla, orange-flower water. Alix the almonds with the icingsugar. The latter must bo rubbed through a fine wire sieve before it is used. Whisk the whites of eggs to a froth; add enough vanilla, lemonjuice and orange-flower water to flavour and enough white of egg to mix all into a stiff paste. Knead it well till smooth and thoroughly mixed. Parc off any burnt portions of the cake. Trim it so that it has a flat even surface. Brush off any crumbs and cover the top and sides evenly vith this almond icing. Alakc the edge sharp and straight. Smooth it with a palette knife dipped in hot water. Put it on a cool oven or warm.place to dry a little, or it will gradually ooze through and make the white icing yellow.
