TERRIF’ EXPLOSION IN SYDNEY SUBURB

MANY NARROW ESCAPES (Australian Press Assn.) SYDNEY, Dec. 7. An acetylene tank exploded with a terrific roar in the suburb of Newto-wn, destroying a two-storey shop and pieces ot the cylinder were blown through the walls of the adjoining premises. A large stack of timber was blown up and pieces thrown hundreds of yards away. Houses within a radius or a mile were shaken- There was no one on the premises, but many people had narrow escapes. The fire brigade quickJy extinguished tht fire winch broke out. The premises are those of D. Rcifl and JSons, plumbers.
