SAFEGUARDING

LABOUR OBJECTIONS CASE OF WOOL MANUFACTURES I Australian Press Assn. ) Received Dec. 7, 8 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 7. There is much comment in the lobbies on the West Riding Labour Commoners’ decision to oppose the safeguarding of wool manuractures. Mr Mackinder suggests that the excutives of the Labour Party and Trade Union Congress should examine the trade unions’ views and the Daily Her aid editorially supports the suggestion: “To us,” it says, “safeguanung is a mere gamble suiting tne employers of certain industries and promising nothing to the workers in the shape of higher real wages, better conditions, or greater security. Some Labour members think differently, and the time has come to thrash out the differences. In view of the general election, there must not be any doubt on this question, which the Tories will seek to make one of first-class importance.”
