An engineer has worked out a scheme for a.seven feet gauge electric railway linking up London with Paris, via a Channel tunnel. It would follow an entirely new route from England to France. It would enter the channel near Dover and emerge at Wimcreux. The Channel tunnel, including the 11 mile approaches, would be 44 miles long. Trains weighing 500 tons, drawn by electric locomotives, would attain a maximum speed of 120 miles an hour and average 92. They would complete the 253 mile journey in 2 hours 45 minutes. The estimated cost is £190,000,000.
