PIRATES CLUB EVENING MEETING RESULTS There was a number of interested spectators at Cook’s Gardens last evening when the Pirate Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club held another of their sports gatherings. The Hawcra Amateur Athletic Club s fourth sports meeting of the season was marked by an outstanding pole vault performance on Wednesday evening, when L. A. Newall added an inch to the Wanganui-Taranaki Centre recorc of nine feet established at the Ccntrt championships of last season by C Lau ent, of the Hawcra Club. Laurent was incdludcd in the nominees, bu £ was unable to attend Wednesday evening’s meeting. Newall won the competition wltli as actual vauT*. of Bft lOin. Ho was persuaded to make an attempt on the r* cord, and with his first essay he cleared the 9ft. lin. with ease.
