WANGANUI’S FIRST BROADCAST
'~pO-NIGHT’S enterprise by the Radio Broadcasting Company, under arrangement with organisers of the Queen Alexandra Band instrument fund, will be followed with very considerable interest. It will be the first occasion on which a local concert has been broadcasted, and Wanganui has an excellent chance to be placed “on the map” as a musical and voeal centre by its own talent.
Those who sing or play’ at the Opera House to-night will seek the plaudits, not only of those they face, but of thousands upon thousands of unseen listeners in various parts of the world, who will be reached by relays from the powerful 2YA and 3YA stations. The thought should stimulate performers to excel themselves, and those who attend the concert will no doubt witness a memorable entertainment.
The purpose for which the concert is being given should commend itself to all, and alone be a guarantee of capacity patronage; but the names on the programme are such as to ensure that really high-class fare which is best calculated to command a crowded audience. The promoters are to be congratulated upon their enterprise, which it is hoped -will be adequately rewarded by results.
