CRACK IN SHIP’S GUN

FOUND AFTER EXERCISES H.AF.B. Tiger, a battle-cruiser which fought at Jutland, fractured one of her meh guns during gunnery exorcises m the English Channel recently. The discovery was made when the ship returned lo Portland that the gun had a crack a quarter of an inch thick, running the whole; length of the bore. The splitting of the bore must ha\e occurred during firing from this particular gun, one of eight: of the same calibre, and nothing unusual was noticed, as tin* crack was invisible from the outside. A gunnery export at Portland stated that such an incident, was unusual in peace-time, although cracks occurred in guns during the war.
