ANNUAL REGISTRATION FEE TAX ON TYRES AND PETROL IS SUFIICIENT A general conference of those interested in motoring and the motor trade will be held in January next with a view to discussing taxation questions, the meeting being convened by the Atinistcr for Public Works. At a meeting last night, of the executive of the Wanganui Automobile Association it was decided to ask the delegates to bring forward and support the following recommendation: That the annual registration fee on cars bo done away with, the petrol tax and tyre tax being considered sufficient to meet all requirements. It was pointed out by Air G. A'. Pearce, who moved the recommendation, that something like half of the amount collected in registration fees was spent ia expenses of collection. It was an unfair tax, as a man who used the roads every day paid only as much as the owner of a two-seater light car that was used perhaps once a week. The charge, Air Pearce considered, was not proportionate to the use that was made (f the road. Alcmbers expressed themselves as being in agreement with Air Pearce in these views.
