Afr Hubert Carter loft for Palmerston North yesterday, where ho is to give a recital to-night.
At the meeting of the City Co incil last evening the Alayor, Mr AV.* J. Rogers, welcomed back Cr. J. T. Worry, who has been absent on holiday in America.
Bishop Cleary, who has not yet fully recovered fro his recent motor accident, has been ordered a sea voyage by his medical advisory and left Auckland by the Aorangi yesterday for Honolulu and San Francisco.
Air V. Powell, of the staff of the New Zealand <oan and Alereantile Agency Company’s Hawcra branch, has received no ‘-e of his transfer on promotion to the Wanganui office, and will take over his new appointment in a few days.
Air P. L. Bennett, manager of the Wanganui branch of the Victoria Insurance Company, has been appointed to succeed Air H. J. Grayson as manager of the New Plymouth branch of the company. Air Bennett, takes up his duties mi New Plymouth on December 1.

Air T. Al. Ball, district engineer for the Public Works Department, is to leave shortly to take charge of the Dunedin office of the Department, his transfer being in the nature of a promotion. Air Ball is at present touring the Ohakune and Wanganui districts with Air P. Keller, who was resident engineer at Taumarunui, and who is to succeed Air Ball in his charge of this district, with headquarters at (Stratford.
A London message reports the death of Viscountcss Grey of Fallodon, after a f°w hours’ illness.- Viscountess Grey was the youngest daughter of the late Hon. Percy Wyndham, and was first married to Lord Glenconner, who died in 1920, her marriage to Viscount Grey taking place in 1922. She was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, and was the author of “The Earthern Vessel,” “The Sayings of 'the Children,” “Shepherds’ Cro ns,” “Edward Wyndham Tennant,” “4th [Grenadier Guards/ ’and other books.
