TAEMER MAKES EALSE STATEMENT. [ Per Press Association 1 ASHBURTON, Nov. 2. Said to be the first case of the kind in the Dominion, a farmer at Pendarvcs was lined £1 on a charge of having made a false declaration for the purpose of obtaining a refund on petrol tax. He pleaded guilty. The police stated that the declaration was made for 926 gallons, 256 of which had been used in a prior period. Counsel explained that declarations had to be made in bi-monthly periods and within seven days. Defendant was not aware that he was doing wrong.
