MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
RESULTS IN ENGLAND MANY LABOUR GAINS. (Australian Press Assn.—United Service ] Received Nov. 2, 8 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 2. Progress reports of the municipal elections in 300 cities and boroughs in England and Wales show many Labour gains, mainly from the Conservatives. Labourites had a triple success in the Home Secretary’s constituency, where they gained the initial representation. Details of the gains and losses are. as follows:

A feature of the elections is the rejection of the Communists, only 27 votes being recorded for their candidate at Bradford, 32 at Blackburn, and 110 at Wolverhampton. Socialist gains are mostly in the industrial centres. The biggest success was in Liverpool where there have been 11 gains, yet the Labourites have secured control of only one council, Swindon.
Mr Corbey, Labour Mayor of Salford, who refused to wear & op hat in his year of office or attend church on Mayor’s Sunday, was defeated by 100 votes. The six unemployeds’ candidates for Southwark secured only a total of 252 votes.
