ENTHUSIASM FOR MR GLENN AT MATAROA

I SUPPORT FOR REFORM ‘•I feel that all is well with New Zealand and 1 support the Government because 1 firmly believe it has acted in the best interests of the country, and if returned to power will continue to guide the destinies of the Dominion along good lines,” said Mr W. S. Glenn, Reform candidate for Rangltikei, when addressing a well-attended meeting of electors at Mat area on Wednesday evening. Mr H. A. Quarterman occupied the chair, and in introducing*ihe candidate said that du ing the last session Air I Glenn hail showed he possessed grit and determination and had proved his worth. The candidate was accorded an excellent reception, and expressed pleasure at the large attendance and the manner in which he had been received. In putting forward his claims for support Mr Glonn said he felt he could do so with some degree of confidence. He knew of no valid reason why he should not be returned to Parliament. He had I always endeavoured to look after the interests of his own constituents to the best of his ability, and to take an intelligent interest in the politics of the country. When he had differed with the Government over the Agricultural College site, which he considered should have been in the Rangitikei ho had put up a good fight for his electors. Although liq had differed from the Government over this matter, he was still a strong supporter of the Reform Party, and asked the electors to leave the destinies of the country in the hands of the present Prime Minister and his followers. No Government was infallible, and any mistake the present Government had made was a good honest mistake, made whilst trying to do something for the good of the people. Mr Glenn said he continued to support the Government because he considered it had acted in the best interests

of the country. People, could only judge by results and the only result the Government could be judged by, v.as •’ state of the country’s finances. He could assure the electors that New Zealand was in a, good flourishing financial state to-day, and that care and economy had been practised in regard to the expendjture of public money. Dealing w’.th railways, the speaker said that during the last two years the Government had faced a lo?s, but when one considered the great benefit which the people derived from the railways one could icgard them as a gain rather than a loss. Even if the railways were not showing a profit they were helping the primary producer and others. The Railway Department, did net get credit for all it did for th.? people. It was essential that railway construction be proc? v J od with, especially the principal lines.

lu conclusion the candidate appealed to the electors to vote Reform and give the present Prime Minister an opportunity of carrying on the good work which he had already performed for the country.

On the motion of Mr J. Williams, the candidate was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence.
