SPLIT THREATENED IN FRENCH CABINE
CONCESSIONS TO CHURCH [ Australian n ress Assn. 1 PARIS, Oct. 31. Arising out of the Combes statue affair, when Royalists caused trouble, a serious Cabinet crisis has developed, requiring all M. Poincare’s resolution to resolve articles 70 to 71 of the Budget, which propose to restore to the Church confiscated property not yet distributed, and to concede religious associations engaged in teaching abroad the right to train missionaries in France. The anti-clerical sec Won of H. Poincare’s party, which is strongly represented in Cabinet, sharply protested against the scheme. M. Poincar' at first suggested a compromise, limiting the number of novitiates allowed to train. Cabinet met twice to-day, but failed to resolve the differences. It is now suggested that At. Poincare may withdraw the clauses from the Budget, modify them and them in a seperate Bill. If this fails it seems impossible to avert a Ministerial complication.
A COMPROMISE REACHED [ Australian Press Assn. | Received, Nov. .1, 8 p.m. PARIS, Nov. 1. The threatened Ministerial crisis was avoided, Cabinet having reached a compromise. Benefits to missionary bodies wil! be limited to a specific list and further applications for similar treatment must be subject to separate legis at ion.
