WANGANUI CENTRE’S ANNUAL MEETING SUCCESSFUL SEASON REPORTED ELECTION OF OFFICERS There was a good attendance at the annual meeting, last night, of delegates to the Wanganui Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, Mr C. H. Warden, president, Occupying the chair. Also present were Miss A. Whyman (GonviLo Ladies’ Club), Messrs J. Arnold and H. Tyler (Gonville Club). H. W. Cooper and D. R. Robbins (Marton A. Muller (Taihape), G. C’.ark (Wanganui East), J. S. Reid (Central), R. Tilley (Waverley) and G. Scoble (Avenue). In moving the adoption of the annual report, already published, Mr Warden stated that the season had been, the executive considered, quite a successful one, much of the credit for which was *diue to the enthusiasm displayed by Gonville, where two large clubs were well supported by a spirit that was not so evident in other quarters of the city. Tho Centre was indebted to the Gonville Clubs for support, both financial and otherwise, especially with regard to sending the Centre representatives to the New’ Zealand championship meeting at Dunedin, an undertaking that was a very expensive item in the year’s expenditure. It was also pleasing to note that the Wanganui representatives had won their fair share of honours against competitors from all parts of the Dominion and they were to be congratulated upon their performances, of which Wanganui might well be proud. Enthusiasm Evident Continuing, Mr Warden expressed satisfaction at the enthusiasm shown by the majority of the executive in carrying out the duties appertaining lo the government of swimming in Wanganui and stated that it was pleasing to see that no spirit of parochiali>m was displayed, by members in dealing with Centre matters. The Centre was to be congratulated on the success that had attended the cooperation of the clubs. He also paid a tribute to the assistance received from two retiring members of the executive—Mrs D. Bonner, who had. organised a concert to add to the funds of the Centre, and Mr A. Pownall, who had moved to Feilding and would be greatly missed in swimming affairs.

The public, concluded the speaker, had met the Centre most willingly in their appeals and the clubs had. also served the Centre •well. He could not, he said, fittingly conclude without referring to the zeal and ability displayed by the secretary, Mr G. Scoble, in the discharge of his duties, which made his office no sinecure. Mr J. S, Reid seconded the motion and voiced the opinion that the clubs weie very much indebted to Air Warden for the work he had done in the interests of swimming in Wanganui. He also desired to congratulate Gonville on their achievements during the season, especially their work in obtaining a 33 1-3 yards bath so that the New Zealand championships might be held in Wanganui at no very distant date.

Tho annual report was adopted: unanimously, as was also the balance sheet, which showed a credit balance of £4 6s fid. A list of championship events is to be added to the rule dealing with these events. A tribute to the work of the secretary, Air G.
