THE WENDY HUT OUR CHILDREN’S CORNER

My Dear Children, What a week this has been for me. On all sides I have been literally bombarded with questions and accounts of the Tasman flight until the words “Kingsford Smith,” “flyers,” and “ ’planes” even disturb my slumbers. But I would not have it otherwise, for it just shows me the great interest you have taken in an event that will forever live in your memories. % Next Saturday the results of the Painting Competition will be made known. I can imagine how slowly the time will seem to pass for those who have entered. I can see that my task of judging is going to be a very hard one indeed. My collection of used stamps has been considerably added to by the arrival of many generous-sized packages, and next week I shall be able to dispatch our first quota towards helping the good cause—that of providing poor children with a substantial meal—a very worthy one. my dears, and to those who have so liberally responded to my appeal I am deeply grateful. During the week a beautiful bunch of flowers arrived for me from “Gold Wings,” of Kohi. When I removed the wrappings I was simply delighted with their gorgeous fragrance. I thank you very much, my dear, it is so thoughtful of you. Last Saturday I made known my decision not to admit new readers unless their application was made on the coupon printed on Page 2'L Despite this fact. I have had to reject a number of readers who have this week sought admission, but did not use the coupon. I must therefore ask them to comply with this rule. Before I close I must thank “V.L.” of Bata for a lovely parcel of cards for the Exchange. With the aid of such generous donors I am able to more easily supply the many requests made each week. Now, my dears. I will leave you for another week, with tons of love, and a big kiss for you all from your affectionate WENDY.
