AFTER SEVEN YEARS
TRAGEDY OF GOLD DAYS. A mystery of Yilgarn Goldfields Western Australia, has been solved by the discovery of the skeleton of James Mitchell, a prospector, who seven years ago pushed a wheelbarrow containing an outfit and rations into the country, north-east of Southern Cross, and was never seen again. G. Rogers, a sandalwood cutter, diverged from the winding track twenty-seven niiels from town, and saw the bleached bones of a man, which he took to the poJice station. The wheelbarrow was a clue to the deceased’s identity. It was found Mitchell was an old-age pensioner and was 72 years of age when he left Southern Cross, and had a wife and daughter in Perth. His was the fate of many prospectors who set out alone in the early days in the search for gold.
