The vanguard of the English cricketers entrained at Paneras. Janine, Geary, Staples and Toone faced a battery of cameras while they joked with a host of friends. Toone’s last word was: “We are very confident of victory in the tests.” Mrs Hobbs, chatting from a carriage window said: “I am going aboard to prepare Jack’s cabin. 1 have got to be jolly goad to him. A woman’s job is to smooth the way.” Hobbs smile,«l broadly, remarking: “I will see you on Thursday and then re-straigbten the cabin.” Hobbs did not comment on the possibilities of the tests but said he was delighted to be ab e to go to Australia. He anticipated a keen tussle but he states they are always enjoyable because of the Australians’ spirit of fair play. Among the crowd were Sir Stockton, Fender, Chapman and other well known personalities.
