MARTON

LOYAL MARTON LODGE M.U;, 1.0.0. F. [ Special •'Chronicle” Service ] The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Marton Lodge was held on Friday evening, there being a large attendance including several visitors. One candidate for membership was proposed. .N.G. Sis. Thompson welcomed two lady members of tne Loyal Abbotsford Lodge, of Waipawa and Lodge Honours were accorded them. In replying the visitors said how much p ea-ure it gave them to be present and to find a nourishing lodge in Marton. During the evening Bro. L. G. Rink was congratulated on his recent marriage and was presented with a very handsome salad bowl and servers witn the good wishes of the lodge. Business was quickly disposed of and a “growlers” evening inaugurated, when members were allowed to growl about anything they felt peeved about, causing much amusement. Subper and dancing filled in an enjoyable evening. RANGITIKEI SCHOOLS’ . LIBRARY The fourth annual meeting of the Rangitikei Central Schools' Library Association was held on Friday, Mr D. B. Brown presiding. The librarian’s report and financial statement of the secretary were adopted. The latter showed that over £lOO had been spent on new books and there would sti.l be £l3 in hand after the final payment. Air Gabites (Turakina) and Airs Alaid.cn (Upper Tutaenui) both expressed a wish that their schools might withdraw from the association. They complained of the class of liturature dealt out, stating that it was difficu.t to get the children to take an interest in the books. They preferred to go back to their own individual libraries.

It was unanimously agreed that a special meeting be he’.d before tne books are re-allocated next year to consider the future system of allocation and also the future policy of the association.

Tributes were paid to the librarian (Air W. R. McNab and the secretary Air P. H. Hall) and votes of thanks were carried by acclamation. The retiring chairman (Mr Dukeson) was also thanked. The election of officers resulted: Chairman, Air D. B. Brown (Marton-; librarian. Mr W. R. AlcNab; secretary, Air P. H. Hall; purchasing committee, headteachers of affiliated. l schools with officers ex-offico. “AMERICAN BEAUTY” Lloyd Hughes will be seen as leading man with the charming star, Billie Dove, for the third time in six months in “American Beauty.” Their first picture in common—which also was Miss Dove’s first picture for First National—was “An Affair of the Folios.” Now they are found in an entirely different locale in “American Beauty,” a humorous and some what wistful story of a beautiful young girl attempting to conceal the fact that she is not ’wealthy by various subterfuges. “The American Beauty” will be screened at the Marton Town Hall to-night.
