PLOT TO OVERTHROW GENERAL DE RIVERA THOUSANDS OF ARRESTS [ By Telegraph—Per Pre’s Assn.—Copyright ] [ Australian Press Assn.—United Service ] LONDON, Sept. 12. Telegrams from Madrid are censored severely. More than 30UU prominent people have been arrested, in Spain during the last two days for plotting to overthrow General de Rivera. A message from the frontier states that Liberals, Republicans, and Communists are involved in a nation-wide piot to depose the Cabinet and declare a general strike. The Government is now in control of the situation, but the country is most nervous. King Alfonso is in Sweuen and is going to Scotland, hence the Dictator's enemies’ choife of the time to strike, and there is anxiety regarding the army’s loyalty in. the King’s absence. There have been clashes between the revolutionists and troops m a number of cities. General de Rive.a is bringing thousands of troops to Madrid to maintain order. FREEMASONS FLEE SAFETY SOUGHT IN GIBRALTAR [ Australian Press Assn. ] Received Sept. 14, 8 ; .m. LONDON, Sept. 14. Advices from Gibraltar state that many Spanish Freemasons from the frontier towns are takirg refuge at the Rock to escape arrest for protesting against Freemasons throughout {Spain in connection with a plot. A report on Monday /it last was supplied to the police, who were detailed co scour Aladrid in taxi-cabs and arrest those named. The m.en arrested include Lerroux the leader of the Liberal Republican Party. ►Similar orders were despatched to the provincial governors, who are arresting loyal Freemasons and many journalists with Republican sympathies.
