OHAKUNE
CHARITY CUP FINAL. UNITED’S SUBSTANTIAL WIN. A very good attendance gathered at the Ohakune Domain on Saturday last to witness the final game in the senior competition between Obaku»a and their old rivals United, both teams up to then being level. United proved superior winning by a margin of 8 points. The game although a hard one, was not of a very exciting nature but proved a very clean one. Ohakune (black) won the toss and United (blue) kicked off. Clemett returned with a good line-kick. Play for a time became central and many scrums eventuated. United gradually worked play to Ohakune’s defence but a penalty relieved. From play in United’s half Clemett took a penalty kick and landed a good goal. Ohakune 3; United 0.
Several line-outs followed, Ohakune gradualy pressing blues back to their defence, but a smart kick by Garmonsway relieved. From a penalty Parrant took the kick, but the distance was too great. The bill came back and sharp play followed in blues defence From another penalty Clemett g.oalcd at a sharp angle. Ohakune 6; United 0.
Ohakune again pressed but Garmonsway and Evans broke away with a fine run and gained much ground. The ball came back and Reid obtained and gave a good solo effort. From a penalty near goal Parrant put over with a nice kick. Ohakune 6; United 3.
Long range kicking followed, until Alarekura and Perry made a brilliant dash but were stopped. From loose play Towns had a drop at goal but missed. 1 nited now livened and some good passing in the backs took them well down field. Half-time was called without further event, the scores still being Ohakune 6; United 3. Shortly after half-time from a good passing movement in the hacks McLeod got away and scored at the corner. Ohakune 6; Unniteri 6. Ohakune pressed, but the ball came out from the pack and was kicked well up-field to Ohakune’s defence where
Evans dropped the ball and missed an easy try. Play returned to centre for a time till blues gave a good line kick, the ball going out near the goal line. 1* rom the line-out Ohakune relieved with a penalty. From a rush by United Thurlow missed and Rush kicked the ball into McLeod’s hands, who scored. Ohakune 6; United 9. United wore pressing again, but Clemett relieved with a good mark. From a dash Evans passed to McLeod who scored another great try which was converted. Ohakune 6; United 14. Ohakune now took the ball down field but a good line kick by United saw it come well back where an exchange of long kicks took place. United were now pressing eagerly and hard play followed. Ohakune worked play to United’s defence, where from a penalty Clemett failed. Ohakune was being to rally again but it was too late and the whistle sounded for time with United victorious by 14 points to Mr W. Annison very capably controlled the game. Third Grade. The final game for the third grade competition between Ohakune and Raetihi resulted in a win for the former by 12 poitns to 7. For Raetihi Glentworth scored and Black drop-kicked a fine goal. For Ohakune Whale scored one try while Glass kicked a penalty and scored two tries. The game was a good one to watch, and fast. Mr Veitch controlled the whistle. HOTTSF. DESTROYED. Fire destroyed the house of Air T. Herbert at about 9.30 on Saturday night. The insurance on the lu. ise amounted to £300; the amount of insurance on the furniture Is not known.
