AGAIN ABSENT

Vcitcli happened to leave the Chamber twice to-day just after he had delivered speeches was commented on by the lion. R. A. Wright to-night. Mr Veitch had trenchantly criticis ed the Government’s railway policy, stating that failure to keep up with the schedule in re-laying of tracks was endangering the safety of passengers and rolling stock. This drew Mr Veitch into another skirmisli with Mr D. Jones, who said that; Air Veitch would have difficulty in scaring the people of New Zealand by such talk. Later on, when Air Veitch happened to be absent, the Hon. R. A. Wright said it was most unfortunate that he had made speeches and then was absent just when one wanted to answer them. As if in answer, Mr Veitch, almost immediately, returned to his seat.

Meanwhile, Mr Wright, in liumorou” style, referred to Air Veitch’s assertion that tho Railway Alagazino was being used for political propaganda. All that had happened was that the magazine had run a children’s competition called, “What did the parrot say*?” Ono child had sent ?n as r.n answer: “Travel by rail and vote for Coates.” Air J. A. Lee: Only a child would vol, for Coates. (Laughter). Air Wright: Another child’s answer was “Travel by rail. I am ten years old, and it is raining to-night. (Renewed laughter).
