OUTSTANDING FEES

TECHNICAL COLLEGE DUES NEARLY ALL PAID. As a result of tho Technical College Board of Managers deciding to refer the question of outstanding fees to its solicitors, most of these have been paid. This was reported by the Director at the Board’s meeting on Wednesday evening. Mr. W. M- Luxford presided, and there were also present Messrs. W. Bruce, C. J- Sharpe, W. H. Swanger, F, H. Allen, W. H. Bott, B. Edwards, C. T. Cavcll, W. McLeod, and T. Townsend.

The Director’s report stated, inter alia, that under the tuition of Miss Duncan the play “Quality Street” was being prepared for production in a few weeks’ time in the Opera House. Tho first fifteen was doing well m Saturday competition matches and two inter-school games had been played, one at Hawcra against New Plymouth Boys’ High School (lost 3-20) and the other on the school ground against Wanganui Collegiate School (won 14-8). On Wednesday, August 1, the first and second fifteens of Palmerston North Boys’ High School were to play tho school on the local grounds, which were at present in excellent condition for football.

At Wanganui centre there were 12 candidates for the written wiremen’s examination, and two passes; and for the practical, six candidates and six passes. None of the former and four of the latter were members of the evening classes in this subject. It seemed that the Wanganui candidates were unduly weak in theory, averaging 17 per cent, of passes agaist 63 per cent, for the Dominion, but very good in practice, averaging' 100 per cent, against 56 per cent, for the Dominion.

The. Director’s report that three prices had been obtained for the purchase of a large ground roller, as one would have to be got sooner or later. The prices ranged from £46 12s. to £B6. The matter was left to the Grounds Committee to deal with.

As the College had a spare supply of desks for one room, it was desirable to have all tho desks from certain rooms taken out and overhauled, stated the Director. This had already been done for two rooms but, before proceeding further, the Director wished to have instructions. The matter was referred to tho Works Commi ttee.
