PORT OF LONDON SHIPPING The Board of Trade shipping tonnage figures for the 12 months ended March, 1928, show that the total arivals and departures with cargoes and in ballast (foreign and coasting trade) for the United Kingdom amounted to 330,831,000 net register tons for 1926, an increase of 54,753,000 tons. The figure for the Port of London is 52,577,000 net register tons, an increase of 3,299,000 tons as compared with the previous year, or 15.9 per cent, of the total for the United Kingdom. During the 12 months under review 6.9 per cent, of the port’s shipping used the authority’s dpeks, the total tonnage being 24,536,731, an increase for the year of 2.149,009 tons. The total number of vessels which entered the authority’s docks liable to dock dues was 9.515, with a tonnage of 15,544,391 tons, which, is a record in the history of the docks. Of this total 11,854,512 tons was inrespect of vessels which entered the flocks “to discharge only and to discharge and load from overseas ports, which is an increase of 51.7 per cent, in the dock shipping “overseas trade’’ during the past six years.
