WATERSIDE ACCIDENTS
! COMPENSATION CLAIMS HEARD. [Per Press Association. J AUCKLAND, July 26. The Arbitration Court awarded £lOOO and funeral and hospital expenses aggregating £42 10s and costs £lO 10s, against the Union Steamship Company on the claim arising from the death of a waterside worker named Alfred Evans, who was injured on December 28 through falling between two trucks fiom a staging used in the discharge of coal from the Kaimanawa and later died in hospital. The widow of deceased gave Evidence that she and one son were entirely Dependent on deceased’s wages. In the claim by Charles Daniel Murphy, waterside worker, against the New Zealand Shipping Company in respect of injuries while assisting to unload the Remuera on Alarch 26, a settlement was arrived at by which plaintiff was awarded three months’ full compensation at the rate of £3 8s 5d a week.
