At a meeting of the railway unions to consider the companies’ proposals to check falling revenue, Mr Bromley, representing the locomotive section of the workers, gathered up his papers and withdrew. The. companies ask for the withdrawal of war bonuses, the cancellation of payment for overtime, night duty and. Sunday’ duty, and the temporary suspension of a guaranteed •' ty per week in return for a guaranteed week embracing all time. It is understood the unions will not accept the proposals. Further conferences have been adjourned until Friday. The companies are anxious for immediate economies, and it is reported that the proposals involve about £2,000,000 of the railwaymen’s earnings. If uo agreement is reached the companies arc likely to press their claims before the National Wage Board, a procedure many unionists prefer. r
