THE STOCK MARKET

WANGANUI SALE BUYERS FAVOURED. At their sale yesterday Freeman R. Jackson and Co. had a good entry of sheep and a medium entry of cattle and pigs. There was a good attendance and good competition in the sheep pens, at prices hardly on a par with recent sales, but nevertheless quite satisfactory to vendors. The market generally, the last two sales has, if anything, eased slightly in the buyers’ favour. These conditions were fully expected after the first iough weather experienced this winter. The demand was quite good throughout the sale and it is evident that there arc considerably more buyers than sellers. The cattle section consisted mostly of grown bullocks for which there was no enquiry, this class of cattle being passed at auction. A few pens of Jersey yearling heifers as usual sold very well. Pigs for this season of the year arc low in value and porkers at to-day’s sale appeared to sell at very reasonable figures; however there is still good prices to be had for good finished porkers. To-day’s entry comprised a good proportion of very light unfinished pigs, which would have paid well to have been held and topped up. 4-year ewes to b.f. rams, to 35s 4d; 4 and 5-year ewes to b.f. rams, 33s 3d; 5-year sound-mouth ewes to b.f. rams, 30s; fat wethers, 38s, 39s 39s 6d; forward w.ethers, 31s, 32s 2d; store wethers (small), 26s 2d to 28s; fat ewes, 30s; forward ewes 23s 6d; fat lambs 25s lOd to 27s Id; forward b.f. lambs, 23s to 245; store b.f. lambs, 20s 2d to 225; wether hoggets (good medium) Cattle.
