DOUBLE TAXES
CONSERVATIVES REVOLT DEBATE ON FINANCE BILL [ Australian Press Assn. ] Received July 4, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, July 3. In the House of Commons the Finance Bill debate created an exciting situation and the most formidable re volt of Conservatives during the present Parliament. Sir H. C. Buckingham (Con.) moved to delete the provision that the estate of a deceased supertax payer should be chaiged for the last full year of his life, contending this would entail payment of double tax for the year, and the Treasury would unjustly gain £1.000,000. Sir Robert Horne (Con.), Sir J. A. Marriott (Con.), and Col. J. Gretton (Con.) joined in the protest. Labourites did not participate, but interrupted and jeered the pleas for the supertax payers. Sir H. C. Buckingham pressed his motion for a division, but it was defeated by 200 votes to 59, the Labourites and Liberals not voting.
