FARMERS’ UNION
i MEETING OF EXECUTIVE I DISCUSSION ON RURAL CREDITS The executive committee of the Wanganui branch of the Farmers’ Union met yesterday, when there were present Messrs T. Currie (chairman), C H. Walker, J. R, Franklin. W. Howi'e, A. H. McLeod, A. P. Melville, D. L. Blyth, I. Higgic, A. Robinson, E. Parsons, J. Brandon. C. Johnston. W. Stevenson, E. A. Aiken and F. Alexander. The chairman stated that a good deal of correspondence had been received from Mr McDonald, of Palmerston North, in regard to tho question as to what was the general attitude of Wanganui farmers towards the rural credits scheme. Very little had been done in the matter, and it was time that some answer was given. Many farmers did not understand the working of the scheme and had therefore shown very little interest in it. A member reported that a meeting called lately at Fordell to discuss the subject was attended only by seven people—two of whom were farmers and the other five grocers! (Laughter). The secretary, Mr F. G. Scddon, was instructed to write to Mr Johnston, asking him if he could arrange to address a meeting of local farmers on n date to be fixed. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr Grice, of Fcilding, for the man ner in which delegates from the Wanganui branch had been cared for at the recent conference in that town. Three new members of the executive were welcomed by the chairman, these being Messrs I. Higgie, C. Johnson and W. Anderson. Other business is reported under separate heading.
