LARGE YIELD OF WHEAT

INCREASE IN CANTERBURY EXTRA WORK TOR RAILWAY. WELLINGTON, June 26. Canterbury’s famous grain growing plains have given a large yield of wheat this year, and up till May 26 over 1.250,000 sacks of grain were carried on the railways. Actually the total was 1,263,896 sacks, which represents an increase of 187.047 sacks over last year’s total to that date. This year’s harvest was much later than the previous season. The major portion of the increase in the grain carried on the railways occurred during the four weeks ended May 26. For the corresponding period* in 1927. 172,422 sacks were carried, while this year the total was 324.477 sacks.
