JIONSTER PETITION PROPOSED GOVERNMENT URGED TO ACT [ Special •‘Chronicle" Service j AUCKLAND. June 26. A large meeting was held in Opotiki to receive the report of a special committee set up by local bodies to present the claims of Opotiki to railway connection with the East Coast -Main Trunk railway. The Mayor, Mr G. S. Moody, presided. Speakers urged the necessity lor strong agitation by the people or Opotiki for the immeiMate commencement of the construction of the line. It was pointed out plenty of labour was available and the 250 men who were being put off the Tauranga line should be sent to Taneatua. Te following resolution was carnal unanimously: “That this meeting confirms the action of the local bodies and urges that a monster petition be prepared and sent to Parliament urging the construction of the East Coast Main Trunk railway between Taneatna and Opotiki immediately.’’
