Another retirement of a prominent Civil servant is announced, telegraph® the Wellington correspondent of the “Chronicle.” It is that of Mr F. Pope, Assistant Director of Agriculture, and previously secretary of the Department of Agriculture. Mr Pope, who is retiring at the end of the year, will have passed both the age limit and the service limit within a few months. Ho is a son of the late Air H. Pope who. founded the Dominion’s system of native education and was for years Inspector of Maori Schools, and belongs to a well-known Wellington family.

The conclusion of 40 years' service by Mr D. B. Robinson as Town Clerk of Gisborne was marked, states a Press Association telegram, by a dinner attended by past Mayors and present and past councillors of Gisborne. The chair was occupied by the Mayor (Mr D. W. Coleman). It was mentioned that Mr Robinson held a unique record in that he was the youngest town clerk ever appointed in the Dominion, being promoted 'from office boy to town clerk, while yet in his teens, and he had a greater number of years' service as town clerk to his credit than any other in New Zealand.
