FINE DAIRY DISPLAY LOCAL COMPETITORS A fine display of dairy produce is a feature of tue Hawera Winter Show, and the set-out of the entries in this respect is considered quite the best yet seen iu the show. The task of making awards imposed a strenuous and important duty upon the judge and ot- ' xieers concerned. Commenting on the prize exhibits in the cheese classes the judge said that these were of exceptionally good quality, reflecting credit on the factory suppliers, ana managers concerned, the flavour being outstanding and, the body and texture very fine. Taking the classes generally, they compared favourably with exhibits at other Dominion dairy show.s. “A very large majority, of the entries were outstanding; in fact it would be a most difficult matter to find a choicer collection in this or other parts of the dairy world,” said the judge of the butter section. Entries were particularly well finished. Notwithstanding that preservative was not used, the quality of the butter in the class taken from the grading stores demonstrated the excellent keeping quality of the entries. This was a tribute to the makers. In the butter awards the maximum points were. Flavour 50, body 25, salting, colour and finish 25; total 100. Local competitors in the butter section and the points secured were as follows:—

Class XVII. —Box export butter, open only to members of the New Zealand Dairy Factory Managers’ Association: Rongotea (D. T. Souness) 44}. 24, 25; total 93}. "Wangaehu (W. E. Smith) 44}, 24, 25; total 93}. Class XVIII. —Box of butter, 561 b; open to all factories in New Zealand: Rongotea (D. T. Souness) 44}, 24}, 25; total 94. Wangaehu (W. E. Smith) 43"}, 24}, 25; total 93. Class XlV.—Box of butter; not less than 481 b; made up in pats; plain wrappers: Wangehu (W. E. Smith) 45, 24}, 25; total 94}. Rongotea (D. T. Souness) 43}, 24}, 25; total 93. In the points prizes (Classes 14, 16, 19), best box of factory butter (open) best box in pats, the Wangaehu Dairy Co. (W. E. Smith) was second with 283 points.
