TERRIBLE INJURIES
MOTOR-CYCLIST’S DEATH BURNING PETROL ENVELOPES VICTIM ( Per Preßß Association. 1 CHRISTCHURCH, June 25. George Jonathan Pine, aged 19 years, died in the Christchurch hospital at noon to-day as the result of terrible injuries received in a collision between the motor-cycle he was riding and a motor-truck on the Riccarton road this morning. Pine was riding on a piece of road bitumen paved, and was facing the rays of the morning sun. As he was passing W. J. Bowman’s yard a motor truck driven by R. Giles, came out on to the road. The motor-cycle hit the truck with a terrific crash and the motorcycle petrol tank burst and the petrol fired, enveloping Pine, his motor-cycle and the bonnet of the truck in flames. Pine was dragged from the burning truck with his clothing afire and was found to be terribly burned. He was rushed to the hospital but he lived only a few hours. A chemical extinguisher was effective in saving the truck from complete destruction. Pine was the son of the well-known horse trainer, George J. Pine.
